Breaking news: Team Rubber’s (ahem, Pitkin’s) Lunchometer is live

Alex Pitkin - December 7th, 2011

Ever needed answers and inspiration of what to do for lunch near Team Rubber’s HQ on King St? There’ll be no unanswered questions floating round at 1:10pm any longer, the results are in:

Yup, so if you do see a poor soul trudging towards Sainsbury’s for a “free packet of crisps” with their “£2.85″ sandwich, please do send them to this post.

Lunchometer was made by our lovely local friends at Thought Den who will also let you create your own.

We’re officially Work Cyclists!

A very cool idea from local agency Pixillion led to them making the lovely site The Work Cycle.  They have some pretty big agencies on there and some really nice photos of pretty bikes in proper use.  An early morning start with Matt, Corwin, Ben, Tom and Ally polished our submission which today has gone into the site.  Lovely.

Burning Rubber 2011

Alex Pitkin - July 29th, 2011

Today sees the world welcome Team Rubber’s inaugural annual Burning Rubber.

You may ask what Burning Rubber is?  Well this will be answered in due course, mainly through the art of photography, but you never know it may also be through poetry and sculpture, who knows?  I think someone here does.

It was initially in honour of Team Rubber Inc.’s 10th (yes ten) birthday but this particular thread of celebratory banter will be a little more hushed while Team Rubber’s galavanting director Chris sits the party out in a chateau in France.

Happy first decade Team Rubber.

Team Rubber tidies

Corwin makes a start

As a great man once said “a place for everything and everything in its place” and I think I once said “a tidy office is a productive office”.  However, I have overheard discussions to the tune of “a militantly organised office is a boring office”.

So here at Team Rubber we like a healthy blend of the two.  Today Andy decided he wanted a project, and tidying with Lorna, Corwin and me was the one we chose for this afternoon.  Some pictures of it for proof that we had a productive Monday and made the world a better place:

The work and chaos before. Sandwiches and happy work after.

Oh and if that looked a bit too easy you can see our ‘to-do pile’ that was created.  It didn’t make Tom too happy:

All things an office needs but probably doesn't want all that much.

Design Demigod

Alex Pitkin - May 19th, 2011

We are looking for a new digital designer with a passion for ideas and engaging visuals.

You will want to be part of a team who use passion and creativity to solve real human beings’ problems with killer ideas, and you will take responsibility for making them look good and function well for the user. We don’t really mind if you use Photoshop, Illustrator or some form of wizzardy or alchemy to do this, as long as it looks good, worships at the altar of usability, and you can make it work with the other folk you will work with. (In reality this probably means you will be able to drive Adobe Creative Suite with the same level of mind blowing poise with which Rod Hull drove Emu).

The most important person in your life will be a hybrid composite human being representing a member of your audience. You must love them (but please keep this dignified within office hours). You will probably cheat on them in the evenings by surfing design blogs and perving over interaction mechanics.

As we hope we’ve conveyed, we’re looking for someone with the right attitude and passion for engaging people through design rather than a specific design rank, but you would be working for some national and international clients like Paramount Pictures, the BBC, and sometimes the Government, so you would need to feel comfortable you could help us make them do a small sex wee.

(Salary negotiable depending on experience).

If you are interested, please send us your CV, cover letter (probably just an email with a nice hello), a lock of your hair, and a link to some amazing internets you’ve made.

Remote working 2.0

Alex Pitkin - July 20th, 2010

In our strive to improve distributed working, I have taken it upon myself to find an office with wifi, sundries and airy continental atmosphere. Zurich sounded sensible (mainly because I had to be here for another work). So here I am in my new office:

Team Rubber's Zurich Office - behind me I have all the services I need. In front all the views and inspiration I need.

Yes it is a McDonald’s seemingly in the middle of nowhere:

The office's proximity to the McDrive services is undeniably superb.

Thought Den’s art of Flash game production

Alex Pitkin - January 15th, 2010

Some really good ‘Rules of Production’ from our compatriots at Thought Den in their The art of flash game production (with some baggage bowling fun thrown in) post.

It was written after the Suitcase Skittles development that we did with them last year for IHG in which we all learnt a lot. But that seems to be the case with most Flash game developments…

Team Rubber defeats the (mostly) undefeatable

Alex Pitkin - December 18th, 2009

Yes.
win Team Rubber defeats the (mostly) undefeatable
It did happen.
We won. In the match that I introduced in my last post, we turned up and we scored a goal and didn’t concede any. Now that’s winning. We’re now joint second in the league and on good form so we should win the league, definitely.

Team Rubber in second place, still.

Ok, so we lost last week but we played well and it was unfair, in a totally-within-all-rules-but-really-annoying way.
A special mention for Tom’s quality left-footed strike should be made, and there it just was.

Team Rubber FC challenging for honour(s)

Alex Pitkin - December 4th, 2009

Following a string of good results and pretty consistent set of players, Team Rubber has been holding down the second spot on their Soccer-Sixes-Pro-Star-FA-AnotherSponsorProbably premier Thursday 6-a-side league. The one we all know and love:

We’re currently behind the holders and previous season’s winners and the-season-before-that’s winners and the season-before-that-one’s winners and some more wins, Brucey Boys. It just so happens we’re playing them in 2 weeks in what has been dubbed as “a game between first and second on the 17th of December”.

Adam Cardew, Team Rubber FC’s newest recruit from Delib, sums it up perfectly: “I wish I had some new size 9 football boots so that I could play but I haven’t got time to buy any”.

More Cycling promotion from the man

Storing, changing, buying, repairing and inspiring

I just noticed on the Guardian site that the Government has recently launched a new cycling incentive on top of their already successful (at Team Rubber anyway) Cyclescheme tax saving initiative.

What they seem to be doing is not to offer any more savings on buying a bike – this will remain the same – but offering more support and kudos for companies to actually provide the infrastructure required to allows employees to cycle to work everyday. They are segmenting this infrastructure into 5 main areas:

  • Storing
  • Changing
  • Buying
  • Repairing
  • Inspiring

You can read all about all of these on the Cycle to Work Guarantee site.

Now while these are all great words that would make any type of travel a more successful experience, what I am personally interested in is the ‘Inspiring’ bit.

This is the part that I find the most difficult and have put the most effort into in getting people out of cars and onto bikes. You can read what they’re proposing on the site and all I should really say is good luck!
