Santa ClaUSB is coming.

Kirk Hullis - November 9th, 2009

Last year saw us secret-santaing mugs to each other and let’s face it, it has made the office a better place. Rory’s eternal struggle to pick between Jimmy Saville or Obama, Ian’s rude mug and Ally’s christmas-music spectacular have brightened many a beverage in their short time in the office.

This year we’re turning to something altogether a bit simpler to organise by no less impressive. If you’ve ever coveted Tim’s USB-powered mug warmer or smirked at Michaela’s 4-port flower shaped USB hub then you’ll enjoy taking part in this year’s (kind of) secret santa.

We’re doing it lucky dip style this year, just before we head out for the Christmas Dinner. If you’d like to take part then all you need to do is buy a USB device for about a fiver, wrap it and drop it into the lucky dip box/bin that Jake and Katrina are making. If you put one in, then you’ll be able to take one out on the 22nd December. Easy-peasy.

I know what I’d like to get….

TEAM RUBBER CROWNED BEST AGENCY AT FOOTBALL (sort of)

Kirk Hullis - July 21st, 2009

So this post is a little bit late. We’ve had a full week of ice-baths and sports massage in our come-down from theBristol Media Football Tournament and now feel ready to share how it all went with the wider world.

First up, we were the best dressed team there (save for Alex’s shoelace around his head and his long shorts/short trousers) Awesome Team Rubber shirts in Black and Gold complemented by some pimp neon pink and black socks certainly set the tone as we assembled for some pre-tournament hacking of the ball at our new keeper, Bunny (it turns out his name was Button)

Into the group stages we drew the first game against a suspiciously young team before sweeping aside all those before us to top our group. Goals came thick and fast in most games and Ben Whitnall did a great job of giving us shape and shouts throughout the tournament that let us play some brilliant football.

The knock-out stages drew us against the eventual winners, Smith & Williamson- we went 1-nil up but then some sloppy marking saw them sneak in the equaliser to take the game to penalties. Like all great English teams we fluffed up on penalties and our day in the sun was over. S&W (a law firm) went on to win the final on penalties- congrats to them.

The Team Rubber Team were: Owen, Alex, Ben T, Ian, Ally, Kirk, Button & Ben W as gaffer.

I’ve looked long and hard and then best 2 pictures are below. Oh, and one more thing, if you’re good at football and want a job then we’re recruiting for an Account Director with a strong left foot.

This guy is amazing!

Bunch of Winners.

Rubber Double

Kirk Hullis - March 31st, 2009

I just came back to my desk to find a card and a gift from Team Rubber. The occasion is my Rubberversary, 2 years since I came to work for the company. As busy as I am right now- just wanted to say a) thanks for the gift and card and b) how 2 years has flown by; working with a great bunch on fun work is how I stay looking so youthful and spry;-p

Remember us when you’re famous..yeah?

Kirk Hullis - September 12th, 2008

Ian’s band LCS have been making the headlines in none other than DV8. The DV8 September Edition for Bristol features an interview with the band, including our very own “Russell Brand-esque” Ian (aka Ives)

Repeatedly headlining at the live events of the year, LCS are, it seems, moving from strength to strength. A&R men should contact Katrina on 0845 6801220

Cluetrain predicted this….

Kirk Hullis - September 11th, 2008

In Cluetrain, one of their first examples of where the web will take us is about a car dealership that offers shoddy service getting bad publicity online and their business suffering as a result of online conversations. Word gets around.

WOM legend insists that a good experience will be shared with 5 friends whereas details of a bad experience will be shared with a circle double the size. This blog article on Influential Marketing
looks at steps you can take to limit damage from a ‘blog crisis’ (NB- Prevention is better than cure!)

On seeing this I had wanted to put this onto the Rubber Republic blog, but think the article is probably pertinent to all our companies.

In short, here’s what Rohit suggests:

  1. Identify the participants.
  2. Evaluate the conversation.
  3. Respond authentically.
  4. Publish your point of view.
  5. Monitor and respond to the conversation.

(Number 3 being the most important) (Or is it?)

Monkey Business

Go on, give it a good beating with our latest seeding campaign for SEGA (Samba De Amigo comes out on the Nintendo Wii in the next few weeks)

Bristol day a step closer?

Kirk Hullis - July 23rd, 2008

The Number 10 response to an epetition from last year shows some brilliant thinking from the government. After our own campaign to get an extra day off in the 3 month drag between August and Christmas, this official response suggests another Bank holiday in around May/June- Double thumbs up to them for that great piece of thinking, I’m with them all the way- why have only 2 Bank Holidays in May?

“Bristol is obviously the place to head to enliven your spirits”

Kirk Hullis - July 7th, 2008

Sorry to keep on this one, but backing up our post about the South-West being a great place to live, some new (ish) research has just cropped up. Apologies for linking to the article on the Telegraph saying that Bristol is UKs happiest city but it’s the one with the best quote in it!

“Bristol is obviously the place to head to enliven your spirits,” said a Mr Kipling spokesman. [we all know that it was actually Mr Kipling himself who said this]

“It’s home to a lively city centre and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. It is also close to the beach”

This guy had clearly done his research into what makes us happy- city Centre, countryside and beach. These 3 aren’t on my list of reasons I love living here. A bit more digging has uncovered a project to work out just what makes Bristol the place it is- you can read more on the Epigram site, the Bristol Student Newspaper

The Creative Juices are flowing

Kirk Hullis - June 2nd, 2008

A film that has cropped up recently on the iShed blog and Connecting Bristol that appears to be showing something that we’ve believed for a long time here at Team Rubber- leading a happy life, with a good work/life balance and lower stress levels is helped by living in the West country. A couple of years ago this was even borne out by a real study that had statistical outcomes and everything- BBC- South West ‘best’ for Happiness article

Since many others hold the same belief and have also come to work here, a significant amount of the best creative work in the UK now comes out of the South West. What we’re liking about this film is that it shows how the climate and conditions are ideal for growing creative talent- let’s hope enough people see it to appreciate how important a happy working life is and make it easier for us to recruit talented people into creative jobs in the region.
