Remember us when you’re famous..yeah?

Posted by kirkh on Sep 12 2008 | Bristol, Events, Misc

Ian’s band LCS have been making the headlines in none other than DV8. The DV8 September Edition for Bristol features an interview with the band, including our very own “Russell Brand-esque” Ian (aka Ives)

Repeatedly headlining at the live events of the year, LCS are, it seems, moving from strength to strength. A&R men should contact Katrina on 0845 6801220

Here\'s the interview

Cluetrain predicted this….

Posted by kirkh on Sep 11 2008 | Advertising, Doing Business in Public, Misc, Reading

In Cluetrain, one of their first examples of where the web will take us is about a car dealership that offers shoddy service getting bad publicity online and their business suffering as a result of online conversations. Word gets around.

WOM legend insists that a good experience will be shared with 5 friends whereas details of a bad experience will be shared with a circle double the size. This blog article on Influential Marketing
looks at steps you can take to limit damage from a ‘blog crisis’ (NB- Prevention is better than cure!)

On seeing this I had wanted to put this onto the Rubber Republic blog, but think the article is probably pertinent to all our companies.

In short, here’s what Rohit suggests:

  1. Identify the participants.
  2. Evaluate the conversation.
  3. Respond authentically.
  4. Publish your point of view.
  5. Monitor and respond to the conversation.

(Number 3 being the most important) (Or is it?)

Bristol day a step closer?

Posted by kirkh on Jul 23 2008 | Bristol, Misc

The Number 10 response to an epetition from last year shows some brilliant thinking from the government. After our own campaign to get an extra day off in the 3 month drag between August and Christmas, this official response suggests another Bank holiday in around May/June- Double thumbs up to them for that great piece of thinking, I’m with them all the way- why have only 2 Bank Holidays in May?

“Bristol is obviously the place to head to enliven your spirits”

Posted by kirkh on Jul 07 2008 | Bristol, Misc

Sorry to keep on this one, but backing up our post about the South-West being a great place to live, some new (ish) research has just cropped up. Apologies for linking to the article on the Telegraph saying that Bristol is UKs happiest city but it’s the one with the best quote in it!

“Bristol is obviously the place to head to enliven your spirits,” said a Mr Kipling spokesman. [we all know that it was actually Mr Kipling himself who said this]

“It’s home to a lively city centre and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. It is also close to the beach”

This guy had clearly done his research into what makes us happy- city Centre, countryside and beach. These 3 aren’t on my list of reasons I love living here. A bit more digging has uncovered a project to work out just what makes Bristol the place it is- you can read more on the Epigram site, the Bristol Student Newspaper

The Creative Juices are flowing

Posted by kirkh on Jun 02 2008 | Misc

A film that has cropped up recently on the iShed blog and Connecting Bristol that appears to be showing something that we’ve believed for a long time here at Team Rubber- leading a happy life, with a good work/life balance and lower stress levels is helped by living in the West country. A couple of years ago this was even borne out by a real study that had statistical outcomes and everything- BBC- South West ‘best’ for Happiness article

Since many others hold the same belief and have also come to work here, a significant amount of the best creative work in the UK now comes out of the South West. What we’re liking about this film is that it shows how the climate and conditions are ideal for growing creative talent- let’s hope enough people see it to appreciate how important a happy working life is and make it easier for us to recruit talented people into creative jobs in the region.

Shipping News: Viral Ad Network

Posted by kirkh on Jan 03 2008 | Shipping News

We’re just launching our Viral Ad Network system, a premium, managed service to help publishers who are asking “How can I make money from my readers by publishing quality viral content?”

The Network will provide a new, more interesting, more clickable source of ad revenue for blogs and sites by sending site owners great viral content tailored specifically to their audience.

To accompany the site’s launch, we’ve put together a series of videos on topics such as ‘How to monetize my blog or portal’: the clip below, for example, tells you why and how to go about signing up to the Viral Ad Network. If I’m a site owner and I want to make money from my subscribers, I need to have a watch of the clip or just get straight over to the Viral Ad Network site and sign myself up!

Fresh content for thezep.net

Posted by kirkh on Jan 02 2008 | Developer

Now thezep.net has wound down and come to a close, I thought I’d log/brainstorm/babble about some of my afterthoughts on my first ever blog handling/babbling/waffling experience…

Writing articles and blog posts for thezep.net proved difficult sometimes, partly due to the staggered nature of Zeppelin news throughout November, and partly due to regular smatterings of good old writers block. I wanted the content for my blog to remain vital and fresh, by not falling into the plunging pits of mundane and generic posting! Sometimes it would come in one draft; an idea would pop up, I’d write it and publish it and be happy with it forever more. Occasionally the news and story was there in my hands, but the words and the inspiration to articulate it would not. Inevitably, a desire to write and a rarely flourishing vocabulary would on the odd instance be lacking a relevant topic or a juicy enough news story.

The secret is to harvest your thoughts and to seize those opportunities when the blog writing gods would shine down and the topic stars aligned and the (almost) perfect post (well, not perfect, but nearly so) would emerge.

I guess, like those women that expose their sex lives online from behind an alias, it’s every budding blog writers dream to maybe make a bit of cash. I’d certainly like to make money from my blog. Of course there’s Adsense, which may not be a totally bad idea now the blog is winding down, but there must be a special feeling that emerges from getting paid to write your thoughts! Or at least to write your thoughts, have enough people read them so that Adsense would apply to your site.
